SFAI’s Information Technology Office has created a new list serve for SFAI students, faculty, staff, alumni, and arts-interested friends:
announce@sfai.edu
By signing up for it, you can (1) receive arts- and SFAI-related postings from arts- or SFAI-affiliated persons and organizations and (2) post arts- or SFAI-related material to the list yourself. You don’t need special approval or sanction to post since the list is subscription-based. Only those who sign up to the list receive it; only those who sign up to the list can post to it.
The main advantage of the list serve is that once a critical mass of SFAI students, faculty, staff, alumni, and arts-interested friends sign up to it, posters can rely on it as a standard way of getting information out to the SFAI community without filling regular student, faculty, staff, and alumni inboxes with unwanted spam.
A secondary advantage is the DIY advantage: you can promote your event or item yourself. Anything relevant to the SFAI community, on or off campus, can be posted.
Protocols include the same ones you abide by when regularly sending out e-mail. For instance, rather than forwarding already-forwarded e-mails, clean up the information you send by paring it down to essentials: a relevant subject line and the pertinent information required in the body—who, what, where, and when.
