Students in SFAI's Spring 2008 graduate course, Civic Virtues: Case Studies in Art, Patronage, and the Making of Public Culture, recently visited several art spaces in New York and Los Angeles. Taught by Hou Hanru, SFAI's director of Exhibitions and Public Programs and chair of Exhibition and Museum Studies, and Okwui Enwezor, Dean of Academic Affairs and Senior Vice President of SFAI, the class visited New York collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, the Guggenheim Museum, the Dia Beacon and more. In LA, the itinerary included the Getty Museum, Hammer Museum, Eli Broad Center for Contemporary Art, LACMA, Santa Monica Museum and the Norton Simon Museum of Art in Pasadena.

EV+A 2008, the most significant contemporary art event in Ireland, opened March 7th in Limerick, and runs through May 25th, 2008. The exhibition, Too Early for Vacation, is curated by Hou Hanru, SFAI's director of Exhibitions and Public Programs and chair of Exhibition and Museum Studies.

ISTANBUL BIENNIAL opened September 8, 2007. World Factory, the exhibition that premiered at the Walter and McBean Galleries on the SFAI campus in the spring of 2007, is on view again at the 10th International Istanbul Biennial from 8 September to 4 November. Hou Hanru, SFAI's director of Exhibitions and Public Programs and chair of Exhibition and Museum Studies, is curator of the show, as he was when it opened at SFAI. For the Istanbul exhibition, Hou has recontextualized the show in site-specific terms, and has rearticulated its conceptual framework.
