NARI WARD ::::
Nari Ward often reclaims discarded objects and materials found in the urban landscape to create sculptures and installations that evoke memories, experiences, and questions.
Nari Ward uses United States Naturalization application forms as a structure to address issues of sponsorship, identity and control. Viewers are encouraged to participate in the project by filling out an application form with a notarized signature and and a passport photo I.D. In exchange for this system of sponsorship they receive a set of Xerox drawings made on the Naturalization application and signed by the artist. The sponsor’s application forms are routinely added to the wall as they are submitted. The work is presented on an official styled desk and chair constructed of a Plexiglas security barrier recovered from a Harlem New York convenience store.
